I <3 NX

I found out from Linux Journal about NoMachine NX. What it lets me do is use X11 remotely a lot faster than would otherwise be possible. A lot of the juicy technical details are in The Arrival of NX on Linux Journal; but, briefly how it works is by using a specialised compression algorithm optimised for graphical sessions. I was trying out the Windows client at the ASUS CORE today and I found it to be easy to setup and very responsive compared to a regular X11 session (through Cygwin with the X Server); that’s over a LAN, but apparently NX will even work over things like a cellular modem (which is pretty impressive). Apparently NX can also work with VNC and the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol, so, if you’re using either of those rather than (or in addition to) X11 it might be worth taking a look at. The cost is right (free).

Blog Syndication

Just a quick note… I mentioned here earlier that RSS Digest is a good way to use RSS feeds on your own website. Well, as it turns out, that site has been depreciated by Feed Digest (which apparently has more features, capacity, etc. and looks pretty good).
