Developers are cool :-)

So I was looking at an old file that I had written (now available here) and I got an idea… I should enhance this to use the RSS version of things. I think it would tie in well to another project I’m going to resume working on in the near future. Afterall, it would be pretty cool to have relevant jobs streamed to my desktop (and I’m sure other people would appreciate it, too).

Tweaking for FIRST Blogs

After last weekend’s unveiling of some very significant changes to FIRST blogs some of you provided suggestions for further refinements. If anyone has any more, I’d really like to hear them. Anyway, here’s a list of things that I’ve fixed since the major unveiling:

  • Problems with blogs whose RSS/Atom feed does not include timestamps for entries
  • Blogs which timestamp problems in their RSS/Atom feeds can no longer swamp the tag cloud with their terms
  • The sidebar in the “classic” view was getting crowded with listings of blogs (which are already available elsewhere, anyway)

So, those are many of the big things out of the way; other than that there’s still more tweaking to be done and improvements to be made. Look forward to more improvements in the future (as my school work, etc. allows me extra time to work on this stuff).

I present to you the new FIRST Blogs

Well, I’m sure you’ve all realised by now that FIRST Blogs has changed a lot. I think the new stuff speaks for itself and I hope you like it… one thing that you may not notice is that we’ve now got a setup where there can be more than one person moderating and approving blogs to be listed. So, that should mean that new blogs will be added much faster than before. Kayla is taking on some of the moderation duties. If you want “of interest” things to be listed, please let me know. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the changes :-)
